A special late start; 7:15 pm for the away game at East Lansing. Another beautiful night though.
We won 6-1. Matthew again a fourth-line middie. And we’ll talk about the fourth-line a bit more in a minute. I had asked Matthew the other day why he wasn’t taking the faceoffs….he’s usually one of the bigger kids on his line and it would seem to make sense to me that he do it; he’s not going to get pushed over.
Matthew said he didn’t know how, and I encouraged him to try it, and that was the end of that. So, first shift on the field today, and he lines up in the middle for the faceoff.
Of course, the first time out he gets a kid bigger than him to battle against…
We ended up with possession at the end of the scrum, so, I guess that’s a win. You can see the ball at their feet in this photo.
Did not play very much; that’s been a theme this week; less than 2 minutes a quarter in every game. Will be emailing the coaching staff tomorrow to discuss…they either need to shift kids onto different lines each game or if they stick the fourth line out there with 1 minute to go in the quarter resolve to put them back on at the beginning of the next quarter. If there are 32 minutes in a game, Matthew played about 6-8 total…
Did have a few minutes where they were on the field together….
and got to do another faceoff! This time, the opponent is a little smaller.
and I think Matthew wins this one cleanly….or maybe the EL player committed a foul and we gained possession that way. Still, a good outing for someone who never tried that before.
Still some issues with running and holding onto the ball. Lots of talk on the way home about practicing and getting better at this….
No big rushes upfield today. Not really a lot going on for Cpher during this game, we dominated possession for long stretches…
Played good defense though….
in a few scrums with some help with his brother…
and some scrums of his own…against some smaller competition. Absolutely leveled this one kid late in the game….
Only one lacrosse game next week (it is the boys turn to sit a game late next week as well).
