Kevin: No football here, but will thrown in that the team won their first league match 8-0 against Grand Ledge and that Kevin played with Parker at #1 doubles and won 6-3, 6-1. And the coach isn’t reporting the scores to the paper. Grrrr.
(Guess the Grand Ledge coach posted it…..and misspelled it. Grrrrr.)
Christopher: Seventh grade means some big changes….no coaches on the field, Kicking and punting plays are all live; full-on kick rush. Two teams though….so again lots of playing time but might come at the expense of some competiveness.
You’ll note this post is devoid of photos….we didn’t get the team pictures this year and since Matthew wasn’t there on picture day we didn’t even get the typical Matthew/Cpher shot. We’ll do that on our own at some point this year.
Number is different this year; both boys now have the newer jerseys. The numbers for larger-size jerseys were limited too…we ended up going with #95.
Cpher will be a tackle…both on offense and defense. Again. Seems to be doing better and being more aggressive on defense; had a sack in the scrimmages and had another sack at practice tonight.
Eight game schedule, so, there will be a lot of football this fall.
Matthew: Must temper my expectations here, I talked with the coach before the season started that soccer would come first this year and were they ok with that. And they are….but I’m sure it is going to affect how he is used and how much he plays.
The good news there is that they have two teams at 6th grade also. So, 16 kids on the team means lots of playing time…and he is slotted in at running back, linebacker, and kicker. Running back is really fullback; and at the scrimmages a week ago, he never touched the ball….was always the leading blocking back. He did have one really good tackle on defense, but, seems to be playing soccer defense (read/react) instead of football defense (attack)….and got hammered a few times by players blocking on offense because he just sat back and watched. Very Kevin-like….hope he gets over it quickly.
New number is #21. Six games…and we know that we will miss two of them for soccer. Ugh.
