Shrek: Cast as the Mad Hatter. Thinks he might get one or two lines.
Solo & Ensemble: Last go round for Kevin in this competition that he hasn’t done so well at in the past. This year there is some added pressure; how he sounds here will help to determine if he gets to play with the full orchestra at Senior Solo Night in May. I don’t have high hopes for that happening but we will see. (typed this Friday night)
The video of his solo is below (typed the rest Saturday morning after he went):
He’s playing a viola concerto by Vaughn Williams; spent a lot of time picking this piece out as the one he ‘liked’ the most out of all of the viola concertos he could find to listen to (we even went to great lengths to find the one that John Williams wrote….sadly, it is way to difficult). After he went, Kevin was lamenting that he didn’t do something a little flashier; I told him I’m more than happy that he is doing something he likes no matter how it turned out.
Kevin, again, got a 2…only ever received a I his freshman year. This time the judge didn’t like how Kevin was handling his bow and made the comment “that you are playing like you are a singer with only one lung”. I guess that comment only made it easier to dismiss the guy as the old crank that the accompanist warned Kevin about before they entered the room.
But, aside from not qualifying for the State Solo & Ensemble competition, I’m sure it locks up that Kevin won’t be playing with the orchestra in May. Sigh.
Facebook: Forced Kevin to log-on to Facebook on my computer so that we could save his look back videos. He had zero interest in posting the video out there for others to see and only my insistence that he might want to look at it again years from now carried the day.

Kevin wasn’t a fan of the original version….that’s what happens when the first photo is of Farmville and a few others he’d rather forget. So we quickly went through and edited the video and ran it again.
