Spring Cleaning

A big day of cleaning today; but Cpher, in amongst the stuff we did today, stumbled across some old photos that provided some amusement.

CCF05042013_00000

Because Cpher thought that this was him, and was really confused by these pictures.  But, not so much.  This is Kevin.

CCF05042013_00000

And these pictures were taken a long time ago.  A Spirit and an Accord in the garage.  Trees and bushes on either side of the garage that have died and been ripped out.  Dad with glasses!

Cpher was very confused by this photo; where did those cars come from?  I’ve never seen them!

CCF05042013_00000

Man things are a lot different.  I don’t miss any of those bushes out front, but, I do miss that tree that’s barely visible on the right every day.

Enough snow!  The tulips are out and are looking awesome!

More Technicolor Photos

I did get the ‘posed’ pictures.  Closing night, as always, was the best night of the run.

Ok, so there’s only one posed photo with the brothers.

Cast_Hutsell_Kevin

the head shot….

and not a posed photo, but one that Kevin posted tonight on Facebook after the play.. "Whiskers and me”

And a picture Mom posted, Kevin with his chocolate bouquet.  You really can’t see the bouquet here…but I grabbed a few photos before we left the house…

Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Pictures

Happily, the school is taping the production this year.  This will mean that video will come late to BNS, and most likely will just be a link to the school website where they will stream the video.  The downside is that it most likely won’t be HD…..

We went to tonight’s production (our 2nd viewing); tomorrow is closing night.

The first time we see Naphtali; sheep in hand.  Getting ready to sing “Jacob & Sons”

20130428_OHS_Joseph_0082

And at the end of the song….Jacob (Joseph’s father in the middle there) is Kevin’s best buddy Drew.  That’s Emily from quiz-post-fame as one of the narrators at the top of the stage.

20130428_OHS_Joseph_0094

The big thing I’ve noticed this year is that Kevin’s performance away from the main scenes have improved a lot; I guess I’d use the word ‘emote’; he seemed to be into the part and the reactions more than in the past.

20130428_OHS_Joseph_0128

Joseph and his coat….

20130428_OHS_Joseph_0155

and the jealous brothers; but man, that Joseph, he did act like a jerk!

So the brothers sing about “Joseph’s Dreams”….

20130428_OHS_Joseph_0218

20130428_OHS_Joseph_0223

and get ready to sell him off to the hairy Ishmaelites for a life of slavery…

20130428_OHS_Joseph_0263

Kevin’s big moment; the whistle solo at the the beginning of “One More Angel In Heaven Hoedown”.  He wanted this part since he saw it in the script, he whistled the part, perfectly, just by sight reading it early in auditions, and well, it’s his.

Not sure where this kid learned to whistle like this…it certainly isn’t direct genetics; Suzanne and I whistle like rocks….

20130428_OHS_Joseph_0326

Hoedown is the first of the songs that I think I can hear Kevin’s voice in the chorus…

20130428_OHS_Joseph_0445

Act One ends on ”Go, Go, Go Joseph”; I’ll say this, Kevin’s not hard to find in this musical.  Often in the front row in this big numbers dancing his little heart out.

Gotta love that outfit though!

I liked how the songs in this musical that are sung by the brothers are all sung in different styles; from the hoedown to the french-jazzy “Those Canaan Days”…..

20130428_OHS_Joseph_0795

The second song where I think I can hear Kevin at some points; especially with the really high tenor part here.  To reiterate what I said last year, and I believe more than ever now, Kevin has no shot at a major singing role in next year’s musical.  Never mind that he will be a senior, the leads in front of him this year (who all return next year) are awesome and there were three brothers who had large parts in the brother songs who were just amazing.

Now, if there is a large speaking and dancing role, then he might have a chance. But Kevin is very happy with just being in the musical and participating.

20130428_OHS_Joseph_0826

Groveling for Joshua’s food…and forgiveness.

20130428_OHS_Joseph_0893

And now dancing his way through the “Benjamin Calypso”

20130428_OHS_Joseph_1055-Edit

Every three or four years the high school likes to have a children’s choir in the musical; this is the year.  It’s cute, it certainly raises community awareness and ticket sales.

The end.  Maybe another post of posed pictures later. Not sure I’m going to get those this time or not.

From The Sports Desk – EL Edition

A special late start; 7:15 pm for the away game at East Lansing.  Another beautiful night though.

2013-05-02-MatthewLacrosse01

We won 6-1. Matthew again a fourth-line middie.  And we’ll talk about the fourth-line a bit more in a minute.  I had asked Matthew the other day why he wasn’t taking the faceoffs….he’s usually one of the bigger kids on his line and it would seem to make sense to me that he do it; he’s not going to get pushed over.

Matthew said he didn’t know how, and I encouraged him to try it, and that was the end of that.  So, first shift on the field today, and he lines up in the middle for the faceoff.

2013-05-02-MatthewLacrosse02

Of course, the first time out he gets a kid bigger than him to battle against…

2013-05-02-MatthewLacrosse03

We ended up with possession at the end of the scrum, so, I guess that’s a win.  You can see the ball at their feet in this photo.

2013-05-02-MatthewLacrosse04

Did not play very much; that’s been a theme this week; less than 2 minutes a quarter in every game.  Will be emailing the coaching staff tomorrow to discuss…they either need to shift kids onto different lines each game or if they stick the fourth line out there with 1 minute to go in the quarter resolve to put them back on at the beginning of the next quarter.  If there are 32 minutes in a game, Matthew played about 6-8 total…

2013-05-02-MatthewLacrosse05

Did have a few minutes where they were on the field together….

2013-05-02-MatthewLacrosse06

and got to do another faceoff!  This time, the opponent is a little smaller.

2013-05-02-MatthewLacrosse07

2013-05-02-MatthewLacrosse08

and I think Matthew wins this one cleanly….or maybe the EL player committed a foul and we gained possession that way.  Still, a good outing for someone who never tried that before.

2013-05-02-MatthewLacrosse09

2013-05-02-MatthewLacrosse10

Still some issues with running and holding onto the ball.  Lots of talk on the way home about practicing and getting better at this….

2013-05-02-CpherLacrosse01

No big rushes upfield today.  Not really a lot going on for Cpher during this game, we dominated possession for long stretches…

2013-05-02-CpherLacrosse02

Played good defense though….

2013-05-02-CpherLacrosse03

in a few scrums with some help with his brother…

2013-05-02-CpherLacrosse04

and some scrums of his own…against some smaller competition.  Absolutely leveled this one kid late in the game….

Only one lacrosse game next week (it is the boys turn to sit a game late next week as well).

2011-2012 Yearbook

Recently we forked over the dough for Kevin’s 2012-2013 yearbook; we could have purchased it much sooner but only made the payment close to the deadline.  I made the comment at the time that I hadn’t been motivated to do this because I had never seen the 2011-2012 yearbook.

Today had to go out and get a sports bag from the CR-V for Matthew; there, I find, in the back, the long lost 2011-2013 yearbook.  Kevin had received it (last August, they don’t get the yearbook until well after the year is over, which kind of sucks) and promptly ignored it.  It has some water damage from something in the car that I just don’t want to know about, also had some signs of mold, and today I finally rescued it and brought it inside.

Figured I might was well scan in the pages Kevin appears on; at least keep up the streak of consecutive days with a blog post!

CCF05012013_00000

the two pages devoted to the orchestra….Kevin appears at the top of the left page, but, the instrument of choice is labeled wrong.  Oh well….

CCF05012013_00001

the musical page, Kevin on the lower left….

CCF05012013_00003

Drama Club; only in the group picture.   Did not even know they had a fashion club!

CCF05012013_00004

and Quiz Bowl….

There were also Kevin sightings in the orchestra, tennis, and sophomore pages, but, those are kind of boring and don’t really need to spent the effort go put them here.  I thought the layouts of the other pages were interesting enough to make a go of it.

Dynamic Views

If you’ve visited the blog in the last 12 hours you’ve seen me playing around with the dynamic view option that Blogger offers.

Pro:  It is certainly cool looking

Con:  I can’t track visitors to the blog with dynamic views enabled.  Not sure it works with the blog-book software either.

So, back to something a bit more basic.
