We’re running a little behind here; it doesn’t help that the coach seems to have totally given up on getting the scores to the paper.
Last Saturday: At the Holly Invite; beat Detroit Central Catholic 6-4, 6-1. Lost to Rochester Adams 6-2, 6-4. Lost to Birmingham Groves 6-3, 6-1. The team finished third out of eight.
I was there for all of it. I have good video (as good as it gets for tennis, you can see the whole court but it is through a fence) of the last two games. The best of the Kevin video you can watch if you click the pictures below…..the first clip is from the loss against Adams, the second clip is from the loss against Groves.
two games in this clip, both from the second set….Kevin’s service game is first (he wins it and then I think they win the next one as well). Kevin wasn’t happy with the ball that the guy called out on his serve but I can’t tell on video if it was a good call or not. Find it funny how much everyone apologizes when they get that cheap bounce off of the top of the net to win a point……why apologize, it happens? the other team isn’t sorry if you are a millimeter lower and it stays on your side.
The video starts late in Kevin’s service game (again. he wins this one too) but there is a lot of Kevin ground strokes right at the beginning. This video is also in the second set; Kevin’s service game is the only game they won in that set.
Last Monday: The team lost to University of Detroit-Jesuit 7-1. Kevin was not there….off at the first Quizbusters taping.
Last Wednesday: The team beat Brighton 7-1. Kevin was there, and they won 7-5, 6-0. The big news here isn’t even tennis related; Kevin missed the 2nd quiz bowl competition of the year to do tennis; one of the other top 4 missed, and for the first time in a year+ the team lost(!) one of the rounds in the competition.
Today: CAAC Gold cup cancelled due to rain. I have no idea if they will reschedule.
What it all means: Season to-date results below. Will probably win once at States if they get a decent draw. Two wins seems pretty unlikely. Unless they reschedule the CAAC Cup there are two events left….Regionals and States.
