Left Grand Rapids at 5 pm, arrive Amsterdam at 9 am (3 am EDT). I slept some, Suzanne slept less. Flight wasn’t too bad overall though.
After the worst case of “picked the wrong line” at customs, we finally made our way to the train station, and after a misstep or two, finally got on the train that runs from Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal. Walked the 5 minute walk to the hotel, checked in, and then checked out for a two or three hour nap.
These pictures you could take just about anywhere; we took them as walked from the room to the Anne Frank House (only about a 15 minute walk).
After the AF House (not much to report here; it is what it is….Suzanne and I both commented that there seemed to be more ‘hidden’ room than we had pictured before the tour) we walked through the Jordaana neighborhood; it was quiet, very quiet for a neighborhood just a kilometer from the city center.
Our first Amsterdam observation; there are a ton of bikes, and we knew that coming in, but, there isn’t a bike helmet to be found. Not even on the toddlers that share the bikes. The bikes are a damned nuisance when you are walking too….too many people go against the flow of traffic. I’ve reverted to London street crossing ways, make doubly-sure to check both ways twice.
The Palace….not too impressed by this.
Had dinner at something we’ve never seen before but encountered a ton of them here….the Argentinean Steakhouse. Underwhelmed….cooked meat is just that, no spices or anything special, just, here’s your meat.
A church we passed as we walked to and fro
Not sure what tower this was….
…but we were surprised to see that it was attached to this building when we finally walked around it….
