Morning: Walked the length of Key West (north to south) to see the sights and get the two mandatory photo opportunities
So really, the southernmost point isn’t the southernmost point on Key West, that exists on military property to the west of this point.
The afternoon was a sailing-sea-kayaking-snorkeling trip. All pictures below come from the GoPro video.
Sailing west…..
Heading towards Mule Key….
Stick camera in water once Cpher and I are in the kayak and heading towards Mule Key. The plan was to kayak around the entire island…which seemed like a lot of kayaking at the time but turned out not to be that bad at all. All of the rough seas on this trip (and today was windy too) gave me some hesitation about this plan but the keys are so shallow and protected that waves weren’t an issue at all….
That bird, near our guide who is standing on his kayak out there, is a cormorant and we flushed hundreds from their resting place along the mangroves as we paddled by.
Matthew was out on his own; I went with Cpher. And Matthew, like Kevin, is a kayaking fool…really did a nice job.
Cpher with a horseshoe crab that the guide fished out of the water…
We took an inlet into the interior of the island and were surrounded by the giant mangroves in the shade for a while….
Snorkeling was not so good…..really disappointing. The best parts, from a fish perspective, were when the boys threw some goldfish into the water and stuck the Gopro in the water to watch the feeding frenzy…
The evening was pretty low key, went out for dinner, came back to the hotel, got ready to get going early for the last big day of the trip.
