In our continuing year of Pure Michigan travels we decided to head Up North for only the second time since we’ve been here. This time the goal was Pictured Rocks and Marquette. Probably should have pushed onto the Western UP as well but, that would have extended things by another day or two. So, it is what it is.
Was an early morning departure from the house; we were going to have Matthew skip a soccer game to leave the previous evening but, Kevin had to work later and we decided to go to the soccer game, and well, we cleared the house by 6 am.
Stopped at Cops & Doughnuts in Clare….good doughnuts! But it is a big time tourist attraction now…when you have mini-buses parked nearby and a gift shop bigger than your storefront, well, doughnut shop is not your first priority.
So of course we stopped at Mackinac City on the way up; walk through the park to look at the bridge and the island off in the distance.
Stop 2 for the day was Tahquamenon Falls. We had done this previously (the great Cpher tick incident started here) but, you know, since you are in the UP, we should do it again.
Both falls, Upper (shown here) and Lower, are impressive.
My memory says this is a forced smile since he was in “a mood”.
And typically when Cpher is in a mood Matthew is accommodating just o piss Cpher off more.
So we did the hike from the Upper to the Lower. Last time I remember I had to prod Matthew to keep moving or we were never going to get there. This time Kevin was kind enough to stay with me as the boys raced ahead.
The boys, as boys are prone to do, wanted to climb out on the trees that had fallen into the river.
Which resulted in a few nice photos…
This is probably the best of those. It’s probably going on the front of the blog soon.
Finally made it to the Lower Falls; next time we’ll have to rent kayaks and tool around down here a little bit. Went and found lunch and headed west towards Munising and Pictured Rocks.
