As an early start on our 20th anniversary (and while Kevin was around to watch the boys!), Suzanne and I headed out to Las Vegas for a long weekend.
Lots of new slot machines this time. I(!) had success on Ellen, the Flintstones sucked, but, not surprisingly for me, my best slot machine success was on a Star Trek machine. Not once, but twice, I did really well on that machine!
The photo highlight of the trip was our trip down to the west rim of the Grand Canyon. This access has bee completely built up by the local Indian tribe and the prime attraction is the Sky Bridge they built over the canyon.
And, like a doofus, I don’t have any pictures of the skybridge! Will have to ask Suzanne if she has one I guess. This is a panorama from the outlook near the bridge
Was certainly a different view than over at the South Rim where we had been previously
Suzanne’s attempt at a selfie…this was the best of the three of them.
So, you pay the Indian Tribe to go out there, it’s about $50 just to get on the reservation and another $50 to get out on the skybridge. They take you to three different stops. The first one, a mockup of an old western town, is so stupid it is unbelievable it is there and Suzanne and I didn’t even get off the bus. The second stop is the skybridge and the third is another overlook. Those are the pictures above.
Here you can see the Colorado River better…
I got in the selfie act….after I climbed up to the top of one of the hills (buttes?)
Here’s the panorama from there. Suzanne stayed down near the structure you see there, they used that to mine guano from the other side of the canyon!
For all of this it was crazy hot, 110 degrees F. But, as they say, a dry heat.
Our anniversary dinner, or, what has become our new Vegas tradition, steak at the Prime Steakhouse at the Bellagio. Every other trip out here had us eating at Mon Ami Gabi across the street, and it is nice, dinner is about $40, good food, loud because of the seats outside right next to Las Vegas Boulevard and you could see the Bellagio Fountains off in the distance.
At Prime, Dinner is easily $60-100 or more. It’s crazy quiet, and you have the best seats in the house for the fountains. And the food is incredible. They have a sauce they serve with the steaks that Suzanne and I both wish we had the recipe for. Just phenomenal!
Of course, we hit all of our usual haunts, Roberto’s (brought some quesadillas and salsa back…will have to rethink the salsa transport next time though). Hash House A Go Go, etc.
Took the redeye back on Tuesday night so Suzanne could get to work Wednesday morning. This was a mistake; not so much the redeye itself but we should have paid for the upgrade to first class for her when we could have gotten it pretty cheap.
