The stop in Roatan is the latest of the mornings; we aren’t scheduled to dock until 10 am. That leaves plenty of time to get up, get breakfast, etc. After the food, the boys head up to play some basketball, I walk up on deck to get an activity schedule for the Kids Club. I notice one thing immediately….
It’s really windy…..
Not 20 minutes later the Captain makes an announcement; it’s too windy to get this fat-ass ship into the narrow channel and dock at Roatan….we get another day at sea. Goodbye snorkeling, monkeys, and zip-lining. Hello trivia….
For all the research Suzanne did, this is one thing we noticed after the booking….that at times, the Dream misses this port due to the winds…even though other ships can make it into port. Tried to put the best face on it…..a down day is probably good for the sunburn and wiped out family, etc, but, it’s still a big disappointment to tool away from the port at 8 miles per hour (Your ship movement update….I’m continually surprised by how much motion you can feel on a vessel this size….I don’t think the seas were particularly rough yesterday and it might have had something to do with only moving at such a low speed, but, again, the movement of the ship was pretty noticeable all day yesterday).
Goodbye Roatan….we hardly saw you
The best, and clearest, picture of the island….the haze has burned off….
Kevin could spend all day doing trivia and asked us to join him. After one event they had a sudoku contest….Kevin is all geeked for this and after some crazy math statements from him over the last days I utter the fateful words “Kevin, you are going to finish last in the family in this contest”….
Oh did I eat those words….you had two puzzles to finish. One guy jumps up pretty quickly; he’s only done one puzzle and is asked to sit back down. By the time he sits down Kevin jumps up and races to the front; he’s finished both puzzles and earned another ship-on-a-stick. Dad is barely into the second puzzle….Mom isn’t even out of the first puzzle
The rest of the day is a combination of pool, trivia, kids activities, and blogging (I finished that epic Belize post over about 90 minutes up on deck watching the ocean go by). Matthew went off to do a ping-pong tournament and found out that you needed to be over 21….came back and dragooned me into it. Lost in the first round, 11-8.
Two pictures of the atrium….
Another formal dinner with the family; two steaks, one chicken, one pork loin, one lamb (I had a starter of duck and the entree of lamb….Cpher was not very happy with me), Went to the magic show after dinner; he was good, the boys liked him a lot (again, Kevin was off doing the teen activities that I really need to sit down and get a better update on. Seems like it’s a lot of video games though…).
The ship has scheduled their big team ‘showdown’ at ten….I really had no intention of doing this but found out at 9:50 pm that Matthew and Cpher were counting on it. So, we put on red shirts (because we are on the red team) and headed up to Deck 5.
I can’t recall the last time I had that much fun with two little boys.
The first stop was at the Ocean Plaza where the Red Team was taught a team dance…..
The song was “Shake Your Groove Thing” and we learned how to Wash The Dog (Little and Big), Do the Sprinkler, Drive the Bus, Start the Lawnmower, Be the Flight Attendant, Fill the Shopping Cart, and do the Travolta. I can’t even remember the last time I did any kind of dancing…Matthew, the little ham, was just eating this up.
The second stop was at Club Caliente
Butch, the cruise director, had us twisting on the dance floor and then had us singing “Summer Love” from Grease. Since I was one of the few guys that knew the words I had the microphone thrust in my face more then a few times….boys were amazed by this and simultaneously embarrassed that Dad was crooning out the “Tell Me More, Tell Me More” parts…
The third stop was at the Burgundy Lounge
This stop was straight up karoake; the girls sang “I Love Rock and Roll”, the guys sang “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and then both groups sang “I Gotta Feeling”. The boys really enjoyed the last song….
“Ooh!, Aah!, You Wish You Were On the Red Team!”
Chanted that phrase as we roamed through the ship…..went to the upper deck to complete the night. Boys cashed out of the event at 11:30 pm with two “I’m tired Dad”s and we headed below.
The woman above is Deanna, also known as De-yonce. This post wouldn’t be complete without describing the total crush that Christopher has on her….
I asked him if he wanted me to take a picture of them together…he shyly said ‘no’…..
Forgot to take a picture of the Dream position this night….heading north towards Costa Maya…..
Last note: Suzanne isn’t mentioned much here because she was feeling under the weather….this at sea day probably came at a good time for her because she certainly needed the extra rest….
