Vacation Day Nine – At Sea

A few general ship comments:

1)  So far, my nervousness about the crowds have been unfounded….there have been a few lines for things, but, not very long.

2)  The one problem with the inside cabin is that it’s well, inside.  I don’t need a window for the view, but, it would be helpful in the morning.  8 am feels like 2 pm feels like 2 am

3)  One of the more frequent complaints about the Dream (in those message boards…) has been some off-kilter smells in certain areas.  I don’t know if it’s the same smell in that area all the time, but, I’ve walked through a few sections and caught the ‘sewage’ smell and the cabin has a twinge of the oily-machinery smell right now.  No big deal, but, noticeable.

Had breakfast at 8:30; Kevin was still sleeping so it was just the four of us.  The dining rooms are all named after ‘red’ colors (Scarlet, Crimson, Burgundy)…I’m not sure which one this one though….(correction; it’s Scarlet…we have dinner in Crimson)

Breakfast was good…the portions were kind of small but that’s not a bad thing.  You can always ask for more, one boy did.

And the view of the big screen from a table on the Lido Deck…..we hung out here most of yesterday and basically stayed here while the boys swam this morning…

2011-04-03-DreamTrivia

At 11:30 Kevin, Suzanne, and I went down to Deck 5 to do another trivia game.  Suzanne was there at first, but wandered away after a few questions to try the slot tournament.  Kevin and I did well enough to win the coveted 24-carat-plastic-Carnival Dream (Suzanne’s frequent haunting of the Cruise Critic message board have talked about the acquisition of a “ship-on-a-stick” as a high point for the message board crowd)…our score of 16 (out of 21) was higher than the 2nd place team’s 14.  Kevin was uber-geeked about winning.

Have to give the boy credit….answers 7 and 20 were all him and he was the only one in the room that knew them.  “How many bones are in the human body?” and “What is the national animal of Canada?”

A panorama from the Cove Balcony…you can see the bottoms of the boats from the left and right

This picture hangs in the stairwell between our rooms….the boys have all commented on the soccer-playing penguins….

Went swimming with the boys on the waterslides later in the afternoon (we’ll get some pictures from up there…the tallest point of the ship…the next sea day).  Tonight was the first elegant night so the boys had pizza and kid food while Mom and Dad headed off to the main dining room.  Suzanne had the prime rib; I had the duck (tastes like chicken!)

Came back to the balcony and watched the sunset….boys were off at Kids Club

2011-04-04-DreamDeckNine

Kevin showed up during a gap between Club O activities and went with Suzanne and I as Mom showed us the ‘hidden’ part of deck nine.  There are no signs telling you that you can get there, but, if you walk by all the cabins you can get to this pretty secluded balcony on the bow of the ship.  This picture is looking back along the port side….

2011-04-04-DreamPunchliner

We slowly headed aft for the 9:45 pm comedy show.  The comedian was pretty good….laughed a lot.
