This I Believe

I may or may not believe this, but Kevin does.  I stole it from a school forum he posted it at (for an assignment for American Lit) several months ago.

All of the kids essays are inspired by this site/essays/whatever.   http://thisibelieve.org

I Believe in Life

I believe in life. Not that there is life. But that one must experience in order to live, to merely exist is not truly living. Everybody should make the most of their time on Earth, and take in all that life has to offer.

But is it possible to not truly live? Unfortunately it is. There are people who would much rather stay inside and be sloth than go out and take in all life has to offer. Some would miss the chance to do something unique and extravagant to watch an episode of their favorite show. People get opportunities to enjoy themselves and have fun, but pass them up. There are people who let their existence slip by when they could be seizing life’s abundant joys.

What about the people who truly live? They are out experiencing the world instead of sitting inside. They are doing unique and fun things. But most importantly, they are doing the things that make them happy. They may be outside, taking on new experiences, accepting new challenges. But it doesn’t even need to be that extravagant. There are people who live their lives to the fullest doing more modest things. Parents, businessmen, and others who may not travel to Hawaii every few months, but still live because they do what makes them happy.

The biggest key to truly living is enjoying what you are doing, and having fun. Those parents and businessmen I was talking about earlier? They can’t always do rare and unique things. But they still enjoy the things they do. And that’s what matters the most. These people live because they take the rare opportunities and experiences when offered, but still enjoy life even when they’re not.

So next time you get an opportunity to do something fun, don’t pass it up. You may think that a similar opportunity may turn up later, but it might not. Take life by the horns and do the things that make you happy. Don’t let fun opportunities slip by, and don’t push everything off, life’s too short for that. Live life while you can.
