Kevin: First day of tennis is today……he thinks he has about a 20% chance of making varsity. Seems pretty doubtful to me as well….he hardly practiced this summer, so, what you put in is what you get out (used Kevin’s lack of practice as an example for Matthew yesterday…..). We’ll see.
Cpher: Football conditioning started Monday…..walked up to the start of practice and one of Christopher’s buddies from school comes up and says, very loudly “Yes! (pointing at Christopher)….I want to be on your team!”. It’s close, but he’s the tallest on the team. Not the heaviest. I think he’s more comfortable with what is going on now and that’s a good thing.
Matthew: Also at football and doing well. Of course, there’s soccer too….and that’s made Matthew a really busy boy. We skipped soccer on Monday because it was the first day of football BUT on Tuesday, we went to the soccer ‘friendlies’ and THEN went to the last hour of football. One player made a comment that he was wearing shin pads, but, Matthew just ignored him and really, he’s getting more of a workout in that hour of soccer than in the two hours of football ‘conditioning’……
The soccer ‘friendlies’ are two scrimmages put on by the club; Matthew has been assigned to the top U10B team (Red) and they played against the U11 Girls and Boys White teams. Won the first game 2-1 and the second game 3-1….Matthew spent probably 75% of those games on the field as the center defenseman. The team is playing 8 v 8 now, so, there’s more space, and they are playing with the offside rule….I think all of this is a good change for Matthew who works best when there is lots of space around him and has great vision to pass the ball. Not thrilled that it looks like he’ll be back on defense a lot, but, he seems ok with it and that’s about all that really matters. He was a rock back there last night……he had two really good games.
Soccer tournament this weekend and the last 4v4 tournament of the summer the weekend after that.
