Vacation Day 3 – Museum and Totowa

Last day in New York City; Suzanne and I checked out of the hotel (…priceline got us a stay at the Westin Times Square…it was nice) and walked through Times Square uptown towards and through Central Park on the way to meet Amy and Lloyd at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The view out the window of our hotel room; the view is northwest; we could look more to the left and see the Hudson River.

Two pictures of Central Park; the first is called “The Mall” and I overhead a tour guide say it’s the only straight path/road in Central Park. The second is on our way to check out the boathouse. Ended up eating lunch (hot dogs from the hot dog stand) on our way out of the park.

We walked around the East Side neighborhood a little bit before heading over to the museum; this is a view of Park Avenue as we walked along. No surprise, it was really nice through here (and also very expensive!)

We arrived at the museum early so hung out front for a little bit. These gentlemen were performing, and, for the second time that day I purchased a CD (at Central Park I bought the CD for the street musicians there…Bass, Drum, Sax..)

Met Lloyd and Amy and went inside…can’t believe that I didn’t take a picture of any of the Winslow Homer prints. They weren’t really on exhibit, they are redoing the American Art exhibit and all of the paintings from that era are in ‘visible storage’, think rows and rows of glass cases with paintings and such inside.

I did get these two photos..don’t know why I decided to capture the armor but do know why I took the second photo. Lloyd: “How would you like to be remembered forever standing next to a horse’s ass?”

One of the attractions right now is this bamboo construction on the roof.

But the highlight of getting on the roof was being able to take this panorama of the city, looking south from the museum.

After the museum we headed over to Totowa, NJ with Amy for Lloyd for a nice dinner (sloppy joes, corn on the cob, fruit, mojitos…Suzanne had never had them but it is now a big fan!) and a pleasant evening of catching up with each other (interrupted only by cookies from Jacques Torres and ice cream).

Suzanne and I probably walked about 6 miles today; I don’t remember being awake very long after everyone decided it was time for call it an evening.
