From The Sports Desk

Cpher:  Went to St. Johns for the first 6th grade game and got whupped, 32-12.  It was 32-0 and the mercy rules were in full effect before we got on the board….

I have video of this game; it sucks…..Cpher played at the same time as Matthew so the video came from the photo camera not the video camera.  And, SJ is doing construction on their main field so we had to play on the practice field….all video from field level.

But, here are the takeaways:

1)  No problem with the wrist.

2)  SJ had 6 players as big as Cpher.  We knew it would be a long day before the game started.

3)  To my eye, especially when we were on defense, SJ chose to run away from Cpher’s side (he played right defensive tackle).  And they blasted that side of the line off the ball……

Matthew:  Lost 18-0 in the first football game of the year.  Waverly had two guys bigger than Cpher(!) and deployed them on either side of the center on defense…..kind of ugly.

Matthew ran the ball twice (4 yd gain, stuffed) before having his finger twisted/hurt and having to come out for a while.  Played a great game on defense; caused a fumble, many tackles (Suzanne said she heard his name announced A LOT) and had fun.  Didn’t get to kick any extra points but sailed the kickoff after the safety over the returner’s head.

Click on picture below for the Matthew highlights from the weekend….

New Picture (17)

(the picture is from his 4 yard carry…..does a good job, the safety hits him basically at the line of scrimmage and he spins/drags the guy for the next three yards…)

Matthew also had a soccer tournament….

The first game was as the same time as football, so, we missed it.  Didn’t matter, we won 11-0.  They didn’t miss him.

Second game was Saturday afternoon; won 8-3.

Third game was Sunday morning, these pictures are from that game, won 6-1.

(the new favorite ‘pose’ when the other team is kicking off….getting ready to charge the ball)

And then lost the final, to the same team we beat 6-1 in the morning.  A 4-1 final…we scored two minutes in and then didn’t score again.  Very frustrating.

This weekend:  two football games, three soccer games, and Kevin has tennis on Saturday.
