I think this is the last of the quads…..first, let’s update last week. The first league match was Thursday…due to some miscommunication Kevin a) didn’t realize there was a match (neither did the coach) and b) scheduled his philharmonic chair audition during the meet. Didn’t really matter; large chunks of the JV played and we still beat Grand Ledge 8-0.
Again, three more tough teams in the last quad of the year….
ACT testing was on Saturday as well, so, some important elements of the team are missing for the first two matches. This has Kevin way up in #1 doubles with Ashton. Suzanne and I are sad that we missed this; we’ve watched Kevin (and Christopher, and Matthew) play with Ashton for years and would really have liked to see Kevin and Ashton competing together at the varsity level (we were spread out at Fric and Frac’s football games…more on these later).
Kevin texted after the 2nd match against St. Joe’s “Played at 1 again and played SJ, the second best team in Div 3. We sucked in the first match (that 6-2,7-5 lost to Wyandotte). But in this match we kicked ass and played amazing. We still lost 6-4, 6-1 though. They were just consistently more amazing and played better in the second set.
Christopher and I (after football) stopped by OHS to see part of the last match against EGR. We watched them win the 2nd set, 6-2, but they lost that tiebreaker to lose the match. Saw something I hadn’t see all year; Kevin make noise on the court,…..he ran all the way across the court to return a shot and then tracked all the way back to the other side to get the return and hit a passing shot for the winner and shouted “yeah!”…..some of Kevin’s teammates are a lot more vocal.
Okemos ranked #4 in the preseason Division 2 poll; latest rankings have us as #10.
