Thursday: Matthew had a good day; woke up early, opened the obligatory birthday presents, had breakfast with Mom at McDonalds on the way to school. Always a good time at school; Mom had sent in birthday brownies, and Mrs. Dudley's birthday is 3/26 as well, so, double the birthday double the fun! I was surprised to find out that the adults at Kids Club didn't know it was Matthew's birthday....he didn't make that big of a deal out of it (and, he didn't include them on the brownie distribution either).
Thursday was also notable in that I went with Christopher on a trip to the Meridian Township water treatment plant. Geeky civil engineering field trip; of course I'm there! Christopher was happy to have me there, it was short but interesting, so, that was good.
Saturday: We all headed out to attend the Ronald McDonald Race for the House; the first 5K of the year. Matthew and Christopher (after, again, a whole lot of complaining) did both the kids sprint and the kids mile. Will get video of this up soon; may get some pictures up sooner than that. Christopher is smiling as he's running along, so, it can't be all bad. Think the boys finished about 4th or 6th in the sprint; they were disappointed that they couldn't start in front and couldn't overcome the 'lead' the other kids had. Both finished the mile in under 9 minutes (just barely under). Matthew ran with Christopher for most of the way but just motored away at the end.
We had asked Kevin before the race what his goal was and he just hoped to finish in the 23 minute range...turns out he surprised everyone (including himself!) and came home in 22:41, his best 5K time ever. That was good enough for 3rd in his age group (14 and under) and a nice medal presentation from Ronald. He was only 8 seconds off of 1st in his age group, so, he definitely has his eyes set on a few first place finishes this year.
The big unanswered question after the race was "what the heck happened to Kevin at the Super Bowl Run?"; he certainly shouldn't have been in the 24 minutes range, especially since we see him now at the first race of the year running personal bests! Discovered the confirmation of Kevin's answer (really bad cramps) while looking for pictures of the Race for the House last night; there were some pictures of the Super Bowl Run there, and, well, Kevin's picture does a pretty good job of showing the suffering he was going through at the 1 mile mark.
Sigh....hopefully he's learned his lesson about hydrating before a race......
Saturday afternoon was taken up with Matthew's birthday party. First time having a party at Zap Zone and it went pretty well; the laser tag takes up at least half of the time and the breaks work out well for eating the pizza and opening the presents. The boys had a blast playing laser tag, Dad had a blast playing laser tag, and all's well that ends well.
Sunday is pretty quiet; rainy day, went to the movies and saw Monsters -vs- Aliens, which was good, but, not great. 6 weeks until Star Trek!
