Spring Break - Day 10: Driving South

Losing the Iphone due to no-chargus made this post a little more challenging….had to go and grab Suzanne’s photos!

Leaving the ship was uneventful; we took our time about it…had one last breakfast on board.  Cleared customs and Christopher and I went to get the rental car while Mom and Matthew waited for us with the luggage.

And we began our slow leisurely drive south.

The drive to Key West is not fast…especially on a Saturday afternoon.  A whole lot of stop and go traffic and pretty heavy too…..We finally stopped for lunch at Robbie’s in Islamorada.  A nice typical waterfront lunch with one more attraction…..tarpon feeding!

The boys, not surprisingly, had a blast.  The goal was to try and get one of the tarpons to jump up and snap the fish out of their hand….

The next stop was Sombrero Beach in Marathon.  Ok, the second to next stop…the first stop was with the nice deputies of the Monroe County Sheriff’s office.  They had, thoughtfully, set up a speed trap on the only road to this nice beach.

Happily, they let me go with a warning.  Suzanne can’t believe my good fortune (and I certainly reminded her that good drivers don’t get tickets….and she knows that the last person in our family to get a ticket isn’t me!

The beach was nice….but a lot of vegetative growth on the bottom once you get out a little bit…like where Cpher and I are in this picture.

And several pictures of Key West, Mallory Square, and sunset….we let the boys have Domino’s in the room while Suzanne and I had a nice dinner by ourselves and checked out the heart of Key West.
