Woke up early, drove over to the Wynn to collect the other 3/5 of the family, and off we go south and east to the Grand Canyon.
Warning, lots of pictures ahead.
About five hours from Vegas to the Grand Canyon…..pretty boring, lots of wide open spaces and not many places (Kingman Arizona is the biggest city you drive through)
The first of many Grand Canyon panoramas….
The first of many boys with a big canyon in the background
THIS boy had a case of the grumpies….and was warned that I would take the picture if he wanted to look like that!
This picture is probably the one to explain the first thing that surprised me the most…..just how heavily forested the area surrounding the GC on the south rim is…..I never knew that and it was really cool because it added another color to the vistas….
This kid commandeered the nice camera and took what literally might be a thousand photos….I am really going to have to gear up to review those and pick out the best ones……as we hiked trails later on he would stop (ALL of the time) and take pictures. Of anything.
Mr. Mood Swing is a little happier now….
The Colorado River…..we took the Hermits Rest Bus Route out to Mohave Point and walked back to Hopi Point for Sunset…..some nice views of the river and rapids along the way.
This might be my favorite rock formation; a half-circle of millions of years of erosion…..
Boys Part 1: Matthew cracks me up. It was about 55 degrees for the high, so you could go the sweatshirt route (Kevin), the light jacket route (Matthew, wearing some loot from the Puma store in Vegas), or the light jacket route (Cpher, who is not so grumpy now)
Boys Part 2
Other Grand Canyon Thing I Knew But Really Didn’t Know: Just how deep it is! Over a mile from rim to river in places. Would love to come back with boys when they are a little older and do some white-water rafting…..
Sunset Panorama
Not much to report for the rest of the evening, we stayed at Bright Angel Lodge so literally, our rooms were less than 100 feet from the Rim. More canyon on the ‘morrow…..
