The spring season ending playoffs began and ended Saturday with a 7-4 loss. Matthew’s team was the #1 seed, and we lost to the #4 seed. There are a variety of reasons for the loss:
- First and foremost, we didn’t play like we practiced. We looked so good in practice this week, quick, simple, precise passing and the kids didn’t do any of that. The other team did and we paid for it.
- The rest of the reasons are contributing factors….the location didn’t help us, playing on an unfamiliar fast turf field instead of outdoors.
- Had some soccer drama as one of the players (and our good friends) quit….that created some challenging logistics issues for the two U10 teams (who were playing at the same time). One of our players had to move to the other team to play goalie, and then there were traffic issues and we lost another player for 5-10 minutes to cover for him when that player was late.
- Because we had both games at the same time and because of the issues, and really, because if we would have played like we practiced that game shouldn’t have been that close, our coach went with the other team and we had the assistant coaches, who are good, but, decidedly more softspoken.
I don’t like posting too many videos of goals from losses; just doesn’t feel right. But, this goal is different….Matthew has been trying..and trying…and trying to get that header for a goal, and he finally pulled it off after a great cross from his buddy Henry. Just a great goal. Glad he finally got it, but man that was a disappointing loss to end the season.
