Only two ports left….hard to believe this is coming to and end. It is still hot and humid though.
Sailing in to Messina…Mount Etna in the distance…
I don’t know what this statue is, but, it’s big and it’s in the harbor. Will have to wiki later…
Blurry trees but Mt. Etna smoking in the distance as we ride the bus to get there…picture taken with Iphone set up against the glass…
Both Fric and Frac were zonked out for the trip to the volcano…
The lava flow that I think I heard came from an eruption in the 1930’s….could hardly hear the tour guide…
The first pano of the day. Definitely think the Italians could bring some prisoners up here to pick up trash; it is everywhere!
Boys climbed up a hill to get this picture…
They climbed this hill; I got about halfway up before my stupid decision of the day, wore Keen’s instead of tennis shoes, caught up with me and the constant introduction of igneous pebbles underneath my feet made it damned near impossible to go any further…
Cpher on the crater….
This pano didn’t come out so well near the road…may have to consider going back and trimming out the wall and just leaving the top portion…
Looking out away from the volcano
The second portion of the trip was a stop at Taormina; the main attraction here is the Greek theatre…but the town was cute as we walked through…
Another good pano…
The Greek theatre was really cool BUT we came at the wrong time…because…
They are holding the Taormina Film Festival….so there’s this huge stage that covers up a lot of the theatre…
This view (and panorama) was worth coming all the way up to the top of the Greek Theatre…
Fric. Frac.
We drove back to Messina to end the day; took this panorama of the port
And the Breeze…
Stopped by this church and then walked down, got some cannoli; and walked back to the ship.
Breezy Nights
- Dinner was turkey for Dad, more shrimp for Cpher, and filet mignon and braised short rib for Matthew and Mom.
- Matthew and I went up to the seaside theatre to watch England vs Italy.
Need two pictures here…one focused on the screen so that you can see it. Pretty good clarity for such a big screen…
One picture for the atmosphere….Mom and Cpher stopped by and watched most of the extra time and penalty kicks with us…
Leaving Sicily…..the ships used to stop or cruise by Stormboli (which has a volcano that is exploding) but the Italian Coast Guard has said the ships can’t get so close anymore, so, you can see we didn’t go that way…
