“May no act of ours bring shame”

Hasn’t been a great year to be a PSU Alum.  I’ve started and stopped this post a few times….

Can’t we all just shut up??:  I swear, I am so sick and tired of every Penn State player, trustee, former coach, or relative of a former coach wanting to have their say that they’ve been misquoted, misinterpreted, etc.

Because every story along those lines goes like this:  1st paragraph – Person X says Stupid Thing Y.   2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th paragraph – stupid journalist does the easy and obvious thing, reminds the reader of the horrible things that happened and makes Person X saying Stupid Thing Y look like the idiot that they are.

And continues the common theme “See, they still don’t get it?”

The Statue:  I’m in the camp that it should have stayed….not as a honor, but, that statue, more than ever, would have served as a reminder that “all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”

The NCAA:  It’s taken a while for me to figure out the correct analogy for what they did…here goes.

Kevin’s in college and does something stupid.  He leaves, goes and gets a job, and the college later finds out that he did something stupid.  Fric and Frac are at that college, so, they punish them.  Because they can.

In the end, the NCAA will have done Penn State a favor because they will have exacted their pound of flesh and if the stupid people would ever just shut up, this sad story can begin to come to an end.  But the hypocrisy of what the NCAA did, the quotes about restoring an ‘academic culture’ at one of the only schools in the country with consistently high graduation rates and removing a ‘football culture’ and promptly allowing football coaches from around the country to descend on State College……sigh.

Yeah this was me:  Posted this on Facebook June 1, 2011

“You can have your Josh-Groban-lovin' coaches and your titles, sweaters, tats, and cars until it all comes crashing down. You can have your Cam Newtons and Slick Nick Sabans. I'll take the guy with the black shoes, coke bottle glasses, and occasional incontinence who's still tossing kids off the team for minor offenses instead of saying "I didn't see anything....". Success with honor. Sadly, a dying concept. “

Turns out I could have just said “all the while” instead of “instead of” in the last line…….
