Vacation Day Four: Eastbound and Down

Rolling Rolling Rolling:

Left Niceville a little after 7 am.  Suzanne at the wheel because Dad had to take a work call at 8 am.

Suzanne drove for about 3 hours….they were probably the strangest three hours of Suzanne’s driving that I’ve ever been a party to.  She’s cruising along…she’s hitting top speeds of about 90 on I-10 as she keeps pace with a gray Jeep Cherokee and this silver Honda.  Suzanne starts to call them her “little buddies” and is actively charting which of the group is in front as one car drops back and the others jump forward.  The boys are actively cheering for Suzanne to pass the “buddies’”…I find myself at one point hoping a State Trooper lies in wait over the next hill just to experience that!

“Like a bat out of hell”

We won’t even talk about the moment where Suzanne is rocking out on the radio (fueling her need for speed) and Katy Perry’s “Firework” comes on and she cranks it up and the the boys are singing at the top of their lungs.  And “Firework” is a god-awful song….

Finally the journey of the three amigos is broken…Matthew needs a bathroom break.  We pull off, and the silver Honda comes with us as well and stops for gas.  Christopher takes a long time to get into the bathroom and I end up having to go inside after pumping gas to retrieve him.  The guy from the Honda is there, and with this Missouri twang says things like…

“Your wife is taking her turn driving?  She’s doing a goooood job….every time I slow down to 75 she's there blowing by me reminding me to get on the gas”

We stop for lunch near Gainesville at Chick-Fil-A and I take over driving.  Of course, it starts raining.  And doesn’t stop for the rest of the day.

Orlando:

Arrived here at 3 pm EDT.  It is a steady rain.  It’s probably good that we spent a travel day while it poured, but, it’s still kind of a downer.

We purchased the Marriott timeshare almost five years ago.  I still think what I thought then…it isn’t the best investment, but when one room for a family of five is a huge challenge, it’s a good thing.  One thing I’ve always enjoyed is walking in the door for the first time and being pleasantly surprised by the room.  Today was no exception, but it was funny hearing the shouts from the kids as they went inside “Wow….”  “Dad, look there are stairs!”

The view from the screened-in porch. We’re staying at Sabal Palms; it’s an older Marriott property here but still pretty nice.

Our bedroom looking into the bathroom; the shower is through the door at the end and I’ve heard it’s really something (a shower head directly over you and jets from the sides…..need to move taking a shower up on my list!)

The 2nd bedroom….which could be home to all three boys.  Kevin will choose to sleep on the couch in the living room to be aware from the plague of the little brothers and that’s ok as long as he doesn’t leave the room (again!).

Looking out from the kitchen onto the living room.  Most of the timeshares have the mini-washer and dryer in one unit; this one has full-size appliances almost directly behind me…

And the boys didn’t care that it was raining……let’s get to the pool!

Tomorrow:  A very Harry Potter type of post!  If I have the energy to post after a full day at the park tomorrow……may have to wait ‘til the down day on Wednesday….
