Back in the saddle

My vacation from blogging is over….it’s time to get back in the groove.  We’ll start with that old favorite…the Iphone photo dump

These are four pictures of an industrial site that we are covering with 12” of soil in West Virginia.  I did the design, but, they made some field changes during construction without involving me, and, lo and behold, the site didn’t drain surface water any more and I had to make a side trip to Charleston to help figure it out…..

I think it was the Charleston trip that I took this picture of Detroit Metro (this is looking north east from the south west…we had to circle around to land…)

The recent trip to Pittsburgh started with an aborted attempt to see my Dad and a successful attempt at catching the Pirates –vs- Padres game.  I’ve been trying to follow the Pirates a lot closer this year than I have in past years, but, man, it’s tough.  Tonight was pretty typical, the ump makes a horrible call and calls Tabata out at home (when he’s clearly safe on the replays we see later) and two innings (and errors) later the Padres are cruising to a 5-3 win.

But, PNC Park is awesome, and we had some great seats on the lower level!  First photo is just that; the next two are panoramas (which are hard to do with players on the field!)

Saturday morning started with a trip to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.  This is Christopher with the Dino Statue out front….

Started out with a lot of ‘casts’ of famous sculptures….You’ll note Christopher taking pictures in the one picture…when Suzanne and I upgraded to Iphone 4’s the boys became proud owners of our old Iphones (de-phoned..they only function as Itouchs).  That should be a fun post in a few months…pictures rescued from the boys Itouches…

Talking with Rob afterwards he mentioned that this area of the museum has been redone in recent years, but, having never been there, I had nothing to compare it to.  But, the collection of dinosaur bones was spectacular!  Really impressed by the variety and size of full skeletons.

The boys, surprisingly, were underwhelmed by all of the bones.  I actually have no pictures of the parts of the museum that impressed them the most, but, rest assured, when I collect their pictures, you’ll see shot after shot of rocks and minerals.

We had our second fishing trip last weekend; went to the same pond as last time….mainly so that the boys could get better at casting before moving on to a bigger pond or lake (with bigger fish).  Both boys yanked some teeny blue gills out of the pond, and both boys did a great job of casting and ending up just short of the grass that’s about 30 feet from shore.  Matthew’s last fish had the misfortune to get the hook through his eyeball, so, Dad had to come and help remove that one….we thought for sure we had the fish out of the water too long so that it had expired, but, after dehooking (and probably blinding the poor fish) it hit the water and did swim away.
