Headed “up north” for the Memorial Day Weekend; Saturday was spent travelling up to and hanging around on Mackinac Island.
Looking west down main street on the Island
Suzanne packed lunch, and during our bike ride around the island we stopped on the west side and had a nice little picnic. Most of that time (other than eating) was spent by the boys skipping rocks into the water
You can see the bridge in the background in this picture
Mom and the boys went back to St. Ignace for some swimming at the hotel while Dad and Kevin took bikes into the interior of the island. We’ve never done this before because it’s some serious hills to get up there, and Dad texted Mom that he was going to die….
We made it though, and Kevin took the map and directed us up to the Crack-In-The-Island. This old sea cave (formed by erosion many years ago) is one of the attractions.
This is the aforementioned ‘crack’….it took us a long time to find it, Kevin’s approach was questionable and the map was woefully up to date. If he had taken the most direct way to the site we would have made it about 30 minutes earlier than we did…instead, we tromped around a golf course and road looking for a trail that had been wiped out……
Kevin in the ‘crack’ from the top. The most interesting thing about this photo, or, what I’ll remember about it the most, is Mom, when she saw it for the first time, said “God he looks like you!” We’ll leave the commentary on whether that’s a good thing or bad thing to others….
