Really good news on the Christopher front; seems like it’s finally clicked for the big guy and he’s not only reading independently at the third grade level at the end of the year, he tests out that he’s reading independently at the fourth grade level! Yowza!
So, we’ll be working all summer to keep this progress up. Spelling is still (and probably always will be) a disaster and the sooner he learns to recognize that red squiggles under words in his favorite word processor mean problems the better off everyone will be.
The fourth grade test results brought a moment of fun for me……Christopher consistently missed one word, only at the very end did he finally come around to getting close to saying the word correctly….‘settlers’ – he would consistently say, in both the pre-test and the real test, Steelers! I told the teacher that this was not a flaw, it was simply proof that he was being brought up the right way!
