A busy week of tennis; seems like the season grinds to a halt when the varsity begins the playoff process in two weeks though. I had thought the JV teams would still play each other a little but, apparently not.
Monday: Kevin at #3 singles; got crushed by a kid from Jackson 6-2, 6-0. Saw some of this match…the kid came to the front often, and Kevin couldn’t seem to not hit the ball back to the middle. “Passing shots (down the line) are hard” he says, but, against a kid who is going to camp in the middle, they are really the only option. I told him later I would have preferred he lose trying to do that as opposed to losing and not trying what was the correct strategy at all.
Tuesday: Played #1 doubles; crushed two kids from Holt, 6-0, 6-1. The first time he has played #1 doubles (“coach decided to mix things up”) with Reed (who has been on #1 doubles all year) and Kevin and Reed seemed to play really well together. Reed is awesome at the front of the net and Kevin does well with ground strokes from the back. Holt wasn’t very good and didn’t have much of a chance here.
Wednesday: Back at #3 singles; crushed a kid @ Dewitt 6-2, 6-0. Neither Suzanne or I could see any of this (we saw bits and pieces the last two days) since we were off with the boys for a soccer game, but, 6-2, 6-0 speaks for itself.
