Monday was our first full day up in Newport Beach; we headed out to the beach a little before lunch time.
Christopher had a rough time of it today…there were more than a few rocks around (including one big one, seen here) and it seemed to bother Christopher more than the others. It took some doing to get out past where the waves were breaking and I made it out there with Christopher at one point. But, one wave broke right on top of us (we couldn’t go over it, couldn’t go under it…a bad wave in a bad spot) and carried us both in towards the beach quite a bit. Cpher didn’t like this and that was about the end of his time in the water. He did have a nice walk on the beach with Mom.
Crystal Cove State Beach was mostly deserted (in terms of crowds, we picked a great time to be here…). It’s a popular place, but you can see in this last photo looking up the coastline..there’s nobody around.

Matthew spent the entire time, I mean, the ENTIRE TIME, in the water, riding wave after wave after wave into shore. I’m standing there with him, his lips are trembling from the cold, mention to him that his lips are shaking, and he clamps his mouth shut, says, “they are not!”, and heads back out.
He had it down to an art at the end; he’d scope out the waves and hit one and then have the second one come behind right as the first one petered out to carry him further in.
We took these pictures later; I’m sure he didn’t see Kevin’s pose. Have to laugh that he chose the same sorts of stances.
not sure where Christopher is during these shots…maybe he was off on his walk with Mom.
