The road to the NFL begins here…..

or something like that.

Travelled up to St. Johns (previous spot of soccer and cross-country away games/meets) for Christopher’s first tackle football game and the debut of the 4th and 5th grade Chiefs.

In the end, it was a successful debut.  We won 21-8.  Christopher, when he was on the field, was on the offensive and defensive line and held his own.  Didn’t make much of a difference in the game and you could tell he was a little lost at times.  Did get whistled for offsides once on defense when he moved when the ref whistled to start the clock, not when the offense started.  Oh well.

I asked Christopher what he like and disliked about the game and was surprised to hear that he liked being double-teamed.  He thought that was great; two guys trying to block him meant that one of his teammates had nobody on him!  He also thought it was better to let the double team just push and push and push him….we talked about just trying to hold your ground.

There is video of Christopher in action, I warn you though, that because he’s on the line it takes some doing to find him and follow him.  Christopher’s best play is the 3rd from last(?) and you really can’t see him at all on the line of scrimmage….but you can see him just knock the guy in front of him 5 yards off the ball as the play is coming to his side of the field.

So…what does a mean, tough, offensive and defensive lineman want as a ‘treat’ after a successful debut?
