From The Sports Desk – Basketball Week Four

The last week of the season where we play new teams; Fowlerville and Haslett

Cpher:  Away for Fowlerville.  We win 59-18 in a blowout where another Dad and I were actively speculating on if we would hit 60 (we could have but there was a big scoring drought in the third).  Cpher scored 4 points but had some great defense as well.

They beat Haslett 56-48 on Wednesday.  No points, no fouls, and didn’t play very much since the coach definitely doesn’t think much of Christopher and plays to win…so Christopher sits the bench for most of the second half.  Just very frustrating since we have to pay so much ($260) for him to participate in these sports and it is the freakin’ B team…why wouldn’t you try to equalize the playing time?!?

Matthew:  If there is one thing that is apparent by now it is that the 7th grade basketball ‘pool’ is very deep in Okemos.  Our ‘A’ team is undefeated and pretty much dominating every team they play.  Our ‘B’ team is undefeated and it is the same story….I would bet our B team would beat a lot of these A teams…

Anyway, this week was full of very sad and frustrating experiences for the other team.  I was there for the second and will attest, our coach made it clear to the boys to stop pressing after a quarter, to stop taking the fast breaks, and to pass a certain number of times before attempting shots in the second half.

And still, with all of that, we beat Fowlerville 46-3 and beat Haslett 53-3.  The Haslett game was 47-0 at the end of the third.  Matthew could stand to be a little more selfish in some of these games; he might as well get his points since the other teammates won’t pass it to him as they score.  Suzanne commented several times during the Fowlerville game that he gave up the ball on open chances to give his teammates better looks……
