Winter Vacation 2014 – The Cruise Begins

Last time we did Key West before coming back north for the cruise we left immediately after getting back off of the ferry.  This worked out ok; we grabbed a pizza and hit the hotel by about 10 and were in bed shortly thereafter.  All in all it was tiring…..a long drive after a day of water and sun.

Tried it a little bit differently this time.  Got the hotel for the extra night in Key West and headed north first thing in the morning.  That was a 4:45 am wake up to be on the road early early early.

(I’m not sure I would sign up for this early morning again BUT there were two nice things about it.  1) Traffic was non-existent…..we went awfully fast and 2) we happened to time it just right so that we got a beautiful sunrise as we crossed the large bridges in the Keys.)

(made it to the cruise terminal shortly after 10 am….got to board the ship a little before 11.  Matthew and I, in this picture, are actually playing some stupid game and texting each other….and I texted him this picture of himself)

2014-12-Cruise02Pano

(there were a LOT of ships waiting to sail today.  Aside from the one we are one, and the two you can see in this pano, there are three more ships getting ready to head out today.  As you can see in the pano, we again have the aft wrap balcony.  Which is totally awesome; spent a lot of time here on this cruise…..there was one really awesome night with partly cloudy skies and a full moon that as I type this I wonder why I didn’t bother to take any pictures of that!  Too busy enjoying the night with Suzanne I guess….)

(Suzanne was saying she was having a problem getting all of us in the picture so we drafted Kevin-the-tallest-for-now to take some pictures too)

  New Picture (10)

(used the GoPro for time lapse videos leaving each port; click on the picture above for the video leaving Fort Lauderdale.  It is interesting for the views of the other ships leaving but not nearly as scenic as what we had from Miami)
